ARTIST PROFILE

Jarupatcha’s love for textiles came at an early age when she would spend time knitting, sewing and playing needlework with her grandmother, a seamstress teacher in the Royal Palace. She continued the family tradition by studying Textiles at KTMIL, Thailand, at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, USA and at Central Saint Martins, UK. Her happy place is on the loom beside ‘Doogdig’, her beloved rescue dog and mascot companion.

As an academic, Jarupatcha’s focus is on sustainable textiles and is a lecturer at KMITL. She has worked on design projects with The International Trade Centre, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Thailand Creative and Design Centre (TCDC), Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) and collaborated on art and design projects with Jim Thompson, Alexander Lamont, Tai Ping and Doi Tung.

A co-founder and art director of ‘Ausara Surface and Textiles’, an award winning textile design company, Jarupatcha extends her passion for sustainable textile innovation in her expression as a fine artist and is currently exhibiting her works in contemporary galleries and design festivals.

As the leading design consultant for Khom fabrics, Jaruptacha has combined her extensive knowledge and outreach to Thailand’s innovators of natural dyes, hand printing and weaving to define both design and production practices. To bring a modern relevance to the art of Thai patterns through deconstruction and reform whilst maintaining a respect and reverence for the heritage of its ancient mastery.
